Abstract
ABSTRACT
Objective: Evaluate the effect of swine wastewater on the viability and vigor of habanero pepper seeds.
Design/methodology/approach: The treatments applied were: T1 = 20% wastewater + 80% water; T2 = 40% wastewater + 60% water; T3 = 60% wastewater + 40% water; T4 = 80% wastewater + 20% water; T5 = 100% wastewater and T6 = control (100% water). The experiment was established in a completely randomized design with five repetitions. Physiological variables and seed vigor were evaluated, the germination and emergence rate was calculated based on the germination capacity and vigor of the seeds, and morphological variables were measured in the seedlings
Results: In germination and emergence, treatments T1 and T6 were superior to T5. A similar trend was also observed in the emergence rate, where treatments T1 and T6 obtained the highest values. Treatments T1 and T6 recorded the greatest height compared to the other treatments, similar results were obtained in root
Limitations on study/implications: Certain percentages of swine wastewater were used in this study, so the effects that other concentrations of wastewater would have on the attributes are unknown.
Findings/conclusions: 100% wastewater decreased seed physiological attributes. In contrast, treatments with wastewater dilutions increased seed viability, vigor, and seedling growth
