Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the capacity of different types of vermicompost, in order to establish their viability as part of a substrate for the planting of seedlings of two sugarcane varieties: CP 72-2086 and Mex 69-290.
Methodology: Nine treatments and a control under nursery conditions were analyzed. The agronomic variables of the plants evaluated were height (cm), number of leaves, diameter (cm) and dry matter (g) at 116 days. Foliar analyses (N, P and K) and chemical analyses of the organic substrates implemented were carried out.
Results: The treatments showed to be statistically different among them, in most of the variables studied. The treatments with complement of cocoa husk and biochar stand out as the ones that showed the best differences.
Implications: The experiment shows that commercial substrates can be substituted with substrates produced with vermicomposts of sugarcane agroindustry residues supplemented with other residues.
Conclusions: Treatments with: 50 % of sugarcane filter cake (Ca)?25 % of bagasse (B)?25 % of cocoa husk (CC); with 25 % of Ca?25 % of B?50 % of CC, and the one with 50 % of Ca?25 % of B?25 % of biochar are the ones recommended for a good development of the sugarcane seedlings in both varieties.
